About Joy

Organizational Background:

JOY Foundation Nepal was established in 15th November, 1996 by a group of Nepalese youths to collectively deliver the services and assistance to the community and marginalized people in the society led by its Founder President Mr. Babu Kaji Shrestha.


JOY Foundation Nepal is a Non Governmental Social organization duly registered with Kathmandu District Administrative Office and other Governmental Line Agencies as prescribed by Nepal Government. JOY is also affiliated with Social Service Welfare Council, a governing body of Nepal Government.


Since its establishment, JOY had actively participated in many Eye Care Camps run by Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (formerly Tilganga Eye Center) in different parts of the country. JOY had also joined hand with Nepal Australia Friendship Association, Queensland, Australia in many Eye Care Camps ran by Tilganga. Till now more than 28000 people’s eyes were checked up and almost 6000 people got their eye sight restored in these Eye Care Camps. JOY also run Eye Care Camps and distribute optical to needy people in different jails in Nepal.


JOY had also supported many other social organizations to run Health Care Service Camps and free distributions of medicines in different parts of the country where health care facilities are either not available or poor. JOY’s other major activity is to provide support to the disable children or children of disable parents and economically marginalized people to pursue their school or college studies.


JOY had undertaken many other social activities like support to orphanage homes, Day Care Center for Differently able children, Home for children with HIV/Aids, organization for Deaf and Hard of Hearing etc.

 JOY’s Vision:

JOY’s vision is to support equal opportunities to disadvantaged and differently abled people in order to help them being part of the society.


JOY’s Mission:

To provide medical, educational and health services to disadvantaged people in Nepal. JOY’s Objectives:

  • To help people with visual, physical etc. problems by providing eye surgical camps and general health camps.
  • To raise awareness of people living in rural areas to prevent blindness and diseases through social communication, e.g. pamphlets, radio program and other mass media.
  • To develop a strong network to facilitate an efficient and effective service system in health and educational services.
  • To help disabled children and their families to get the training, education and support they need.
  • To support disadvantaged youth to get training and to find employment.
