PARTICIPATE ON TRAINING & AWARENESS PROGRAM

Shruti Nepal has organized “Disaster Preparedness Training and Awareness Program on Hearing Disability” with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people on 18th May, 2016 (5th Jestha, 2073) Alpha Beta House, Buddhanagar, Kathmandu. The main objective of this program is to find out the problems faced by deaf and hard of hearing people and necessary training of disaster preparedness and awareness program on hearing disability as well as employment opportunity.There were participants from DPOs, NAPD, NBSA and different sectors.

Honorable Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Women, Children and Social Welfare Mr. C. P. Mainali had inaugurated the program. Ms. Nita Keshari Bhattarai, President of Shruti Nepal presented brief introduction about Shruti Nepal and its activities and objectives. She also raised voice against Population Census of 2011 where hard of hearing and deafened people are included with Deaf population.

Dr. Ishwor Devkota presented various health problems faced by Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in Nepal. The main problem of these people is lack of communication with hearing community. As a result they are unable to express their opinions and feelings which the hearing people can understand.

During the program, Shruti Nepal facilitated live captioning and interpretation for persons with hearing disability and making accessible by providing Speech-to-Text, Sign language interpreter.

In the training Session, Disaster Preparedness training for needy people was supported by Handicap International.
